Emmersdorf – Down by the River

In September 2025, work in Emmersdorf (municipality of Rosegg, Carinthia) was continued in cooperation between the Carinthian Institute for Archaeology, History and Cultural Mediation (KIAGK) and the Department of Ancient History, Classical Studies and Mycenaeology at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg.
As part of the excavation campaign carried out in September, the research focus was on structures in the immediate riverside area, which could be a potential ancient river port. The aim of the project is the archaeological verification of a river port in the inner Alpine region, in order to gain new insights into the ancient transport and trade infrastructure of this area.
