Lead – Properties, Occurrence, and Ancient Use
Lecture by Alexander Budsky / Ernst Hinteregger / Renate Jernej
The metal lead has properties that make it universally usable. It remains indispensable for many technical fields to this day. The use of lead goes back thousands of years. Roman writers were already aware of its toxicity. In Carinthia, there are significant deposits that were already being exploited 3,000 years ago. Based on archaeological case studies, the speakers provide an entertaining, concise insight into the world of lead from the perspectives of earth sciences, chemistry, and archaeology.
