Reviews

Participation in the excavation in Rosegg was a complete success. I felt the mixture of excavation managers, archaeologists, students and excavation tourists like a small family. We all had the same goal and achieved it in the way that suited our abilities. If it can be arranged, I would very much like to be there again next year. Stefan and Laura knew how to give me insights into their work and to participate in it and answer all my questions. Martina’s excellent guided tour of the Celtic World Museum gave me the opportunity to look at the excavation from a new perspective: the Romans were here and lived together with the Celtic population. The fantastic excursion to the old and the new old main path of the Romans proposed by Stefan and Josef from the south gave my participation in the excavation a supra-regional significance. It was a very enriching experience for me, which I can talk about for a long time. Thank you very much for letting me be there.

A fantastic week

In September 2024, I took part in the excavation of a Roman sanctuary in Carinthia for seven days. It was quite different than expected – and it was fantastic!

On the first day, the excavation management gave a detailed introduction to the site and its historical background. We were informed about archaeology, its techniques, working materials and documentation methods.

The group consisted of excavation leaders, students and volunteers on site and through the association. I felt very welcome and accepted from the very beginning. I will take part in an excavation again next year.

The communication with the association was very good both before the booking and in the run-up to the excavation. There was information about the procedure, accommodation and practical travel tips.

One note: An excavation is a physical effort and requires some stamina. So it’s best to practice some endurance and fitness in advance.
