Who is KIAGK?
The Carinthian Institute for Archaeology, History und Cultural Education deals with the history of Carinthia. We are a non-profit association made up of humanities scholars, archaeologists, ancient historians, cultural mediators, regional historians and genealogists, uniting all of this in three people.
What makes us special?
What makes us unique is the diversity that we believe is needed to understand history and, above all, to be able to comprehend it better. This diversity is reflected in our expertise. In addition to archaeological excavations, our portfolio also includes archival research, map studies and inspections. Furthermore, it is also very important to us to create an awareness of the importance and necessity of cultural testimonies in order to be able to guarantee the preservation and a mindful handling of our past.
What are the goals of KIAGK?
With our work, we want to make an important contribution to supplementing Carinthia’s regional history and to closing them where there are gaps. Above all, it is very important to us to expand, deepen and even rewrite the understanding and knowledge about the past and culture of a region.
Are there cooperations with other associations and research institutions?
We work very closely with other cultural, historical and scientific institutions in the regional and national environment. In particular, the Archaeology Experience Association should be emphasized here. Through this cooperation, laypeople are also able to participate in an archaeological excavation.
